Below are links to the basic resources to get you acquainted with the Career Center.  In addition to the resources below, use this checklist of to-do items for the Fall semester.

4 Meet with your career counselor

The better we know you, the more we can help.  Your initial appointment with your career counselor will help your career counselor understand why you came to law school and your career goals.  From there, you’ll work with your counselor to fine tune your application documents, develop a job search strategy, prepare for interviews, and more!

Want to learn more about what to expect from a meeting with your counselor?  Click here.

We encourage you to review and complete the pre-work self-assessment materials and the statement of purpose worksheet (note portal log-in is required for both of these exercises) before your appointment.  These self-assessment materials will help you identify your strengths, preferences, and areas for growth. Click the button for instructions on how to make and appointment.

Attend the Career Center Workshops

The Career Center offers weekly workshops throughout the semester covering  Resume Writing, Cover Letter Writing, Informational Interviews, and Job Search  Resources.  Click the button for more information.

Subscribe to the Career Center Calendar

Keep track of job fairs, networking events, and other key career related deadlines  by subscribing to the Career Center calendar and keeping up with external career  events on the blog calendar.  Click the button for more information.

Get to know and use CORE.

CORE is the Career Center’s database for employers, job listings, on campus recruiting, workshops, and appointments. CORE is available though single sign-on which means your log-in credentials for CORE are the same as your @law.gwu.edu email.  Make sure you log out of any other Google accounts before accessing CORE.

Log-in to CORE to register for events, search for job postings (job listings are only available after Dec. 1 for 1Ls), and researching employers.  Click the button to log-in.

Begin preparing your application documents.

Wondering where to apply for positions?  After December 1st, CORE is the first place to start.  Make sure to use the resources on the Most Common Job Search Resources for your 1L Search.  After attending the career center workshops and identifying opportunities in which you may be interested, it’s time to begin drafting your resume and cover letters.  Use the Application resources we’ve prepared to help you get started.
